The L series was born in 1983. The name “L” comes from the word “Luxury”,
which means luxury goods. As the name suggests,
carefully selected materials are used luxuriously and carefully made by skilled craftsmen.

The Yamaha L6 acoustic guitar, introduced in 1975 as part of Yamaha’s esteemed L-series, represents a significant chapter in the company’s history of crafting high-quality instruments. The “L” in the series stands for “Luxury,” reflecting Yamaha’s commitment to superior craftsmanship and materials.

Specifications:

Top: Initially, the L6 featured a solid Ezo spruce top, known for its excellent tonal qualities.
Back and Sides: The guitar was constructed with Indian rosewood for the back and sides.
Fingerboard: An ebony fingerboard was standard in early models, offering a smooth playing experience.

In 1977, Yamaha made notable changes to the L6’s construction. The back and sides were transitioned to laminated Indian rosewood, and the fingerboard material was changed from ebony to Indian rosewood.

The L6’s design and tonal characteristics have made it a favorite among musicians. Notably, Bob Dylan owned and played an L6 from the late 1970s onward, underscoring its appeal to professional artists.
